Today is the first meteorological day of summer, the first day of hurricane season, and it’s another First Alert Weather Day. It feels like summer today with the heat and humidity. Highs are in the low 90s, but it feels like 98° to 101°. While most of us will stay dry, there’s a chance for a few isolated but strong/severe thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening.

These storms will move from north to south, and even though they’ll be pretty scattered, anyone caught under one could see large hail, strong winds, localized flooding, frequent lightning, and even a small risk of a tornado.

Most of Central Texas is under that slight risk for severe weather for this afternoon. Storms could pop up as early as 2–4 PM, but most models now suggest more of an evening setup, around 6–8 PM, with everything clearing out by midnight. Timing is still a bit uncertain and will depend on when storms start to initiate, so it’s a good idea to keep an eye on the radar throughout the day.

Looking ahead into the work week, the weather pattern stays active. We will have a cold front stall to our north, a dryline from the west each afternoon, and that keeps storm chances in the forecast Tuesday through Friday. We could see another 1–2 inches of rain, especially west of I-35. Expect highs in the low to mid-90s most days.

Stay weather-aware this week.
