(KWTX) - Here’s this week’s Restaurant Report Card for Central Texas:

Pizza Hut at 10207 China Spring Road in Waco failed a routine inspection with an 83. (17 demerits)

According to the food safety worker, there was wastewater dripping from the condenser and the reach-in cooler into a container of cinnamon rolls and contaminating the food.

That item was thrown out.

The sanitizer bucket did not have enough sanitizing solution.

Neither did the dishwasher.

Also, there was brown and black mold-like substances in several areas of the kitchen, plus soil, dust, and food debris on surfaces.

Los Compadres at 16075 North I-35 in West failed a re-inspection with an 89. (11 demerits)

According to the food safety worker, there were several “clean” containers with old sticky residue on them.

Dried peppers stored in a plastic trash bag, damaged ceiling panels, missing flooring, heavy accumulation of a black, slimy substance in and around both floor drains near the fryers, and a brown residue on the wall underneath the 3-compartment sink.

On The Border Mexican Cafe at 4320 West Waco Drive in Waco failed a re-inspection with an 87. (13 demerits)

According to the food safety worker, the cooked chicken and beef, and the cheesecake were not kept at the right temperature.

Multiple containers of chicken and beef were thawing without proper labeling and there was old syrup residue on the soda nozzle.

And this week’s Clean Plate award goes to Red Wagon BBQ at 9124 Gholson Road in Waco.

This spot has a special place in the hearts of many here in central Texas.

If you are looking for smoked turkey breast, Wagyu beef ribs, mac and cheese and what they call, “authentic smoked Texas barbecue,” this is the place.

If you get a sandwich, get ready to loosen your belt.

That sucker’s huge.

And if you prefer a tortilla instead, check out the crispy brisket tacos.

Report Card” segments are gathered directly from the public records of regular inspections conducted by county health department officials in Central Texas. KWTX does not determine what locations are inspected and does not assign the overall scores which are reflected in percentages. Any questions regarding the status of an inspection, reinspection, or the score reported should be directed to the individual county health departments in which those businesses are located.
