Restaurant Report Card for Central Texas: 8.1.24

(KWTX) - Here’s this week’s restaurant report card for Central Texas:

Subzero Nitrogen Ice Cream at 215 South University Parks Drive in Waco failed a renewal inspection made a 74 (26 DEMERITS).

According to the food safety worker, the cut pineapples, custard and milk were not kept at the right temperature. They were thrown out.

There was no certified food manager on duty during the inspection and no vomit clean-up plan.

An employee with fake nails and nail polish was handling the food without wearing gloves.

The workers said they were using raw unpasteurized eggs and milk. They’re supposed to be pasteurized, and there should be a consumer advisory on the menu concerning those ingredients in the custard.

This place needed a reinspection.

Papa Bears at 5102 North 19th Street in Waco failed a renewal inspection with a 91 (9 DEMERITS).

According to the food safety worker, the dishwasher had zero sanitizer in it.

The sliced tomatoes, mushrooms, and other veggies were not keep at the right temperature.

And the back door did not seal properly, which means pests could enter.

This place later passed a re-inspection.

Toasted Yolk Cafe at 1725 Washington Avenue in Waco passed a renewal inspection with a 92 (8 DEMERITS).

According to the food safety worker, there was dried food on a clean food container.

The ice scoop was not stored on a sanitized surface.

There was a leaking sink and broken or chipped plates.

And this week’s Clean Plate award goes to Waco Cha, otherwise known as, Cha Community at 1001 Franklin Avenue in Waco.

According to its website, this place is more than just tea and dumplings, though it does specialize in Taiwanese American boba tea.

Some fan favorites are the pork and veggie dumplings and the chickpea curry.

You can wash it down with a galaxy lemonade or Vietnamese coffee.
